I. WHAT IS GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT SORE THROATS?
Most often, sore throats are caused by an inflammatory disease called pharyngitis, and almost everyone gets sick from it at least once a year.
There are three main causes that cause inflammation of the throat - viruses, bacteria and non-infectious factors - mechanical, chemical, thermal irritants, gastric reflux and allergies. However, the most common cause is viruses. For this reason, the unjustified use of antibiotic preparations is wrong and harmful to the body.
If there is inflammation of the vocal cords, we are talking about laryngitis. The causes are usually the same as for pharyngitis, but it can also result from overstraining the voice. Most often, laryngitis is accompanied by loss of voice, hoarse voice, dry nagging cough and dry throat. Very often, the inflammatory process can involve the larynx and pharynx at the same time.
One of the most commonly used throat remedies are lozenges.
At present, many preparations have been developed, which have various mechanisms of action, composition and dosage of the active substances.
Some of them have a pronounced local antiviral effect and contain various antiviral agents, such as ionized zinc, natural and synthetic molecules. Others contain antibacterial agents, both of natural origin, such as propolis, as well as artificially created active substances. Their local effect against the causes of inflammation contributes to the faster relief of symptoms (pain, swelling, irritation, etc.) and helps to control the infection that causes them more quickly.
Lozenges also aim to alleviate one of the most irritating symptoms – dry throat. This problem is most often solved with a classic sweetener, such as sugar, or with more modern means, such as hyaluronic acid.
Agents with synergistically acting ingredients provide high efficiency in the symptomatic control of throat infections, as a result of which symptoms are relieved more quickly, last less time, and healing is faster.
II. WHAT IS STREPTOGARD®?
Streptogard® is a lozenge that releases 5 mg of ionized zinc, 2 mg of propolis, 20 mg of hyaluronic acid and 20 mg of vitamin C. It favorably affects the health and function of the throat, tonsils, respiratory tract, and oral mucosa.
Contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Supports the feeling of comfort in the throat, respiratory tract and oral cavity.
Each Streptogard® tablet contains:
• Ionized zinc – 5 mg (50% NRVs*)
• PWETM-MD aqueous extract of Brazilian propolis – 2 mg
• Hyaluronic acid – 20 mg
• Vitamin C – 20 mg (25% NRVs*)
*NRVs - Nutritional Reference Values.
Other ingredients: sweeteners - sugar, maltose, acidity regulator - citric acid, flavorings, coloring (curcumin).
Streptogard® is a food additive with sugar and sweetener.
Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and participates in the process of their division. To exert its positive effect, zinc must be in an ionized state. The zinc acetate used in Streptogard ® is 100% ionized in the oral cavity. The forms (salts) of zinc, which are partially ionized, do not have the above-described effect in the permissible doses.
PWETM-MD is an aqueous extract of Brazilian propolis standardized for organic aromatic acids. It is obtained by a unique Green ExtractionTM method with only water, without chemical solvents, which ensures a high concentration of biologically active substances, excellent solubility and bioavailability, as well as exceptional purity and absence of unwanted impurities and beeswax. Brazilian propolis has a specific composition unique to this region of the world and is characterized by a high content of organic aromatic acids and a specific phenolic profile that have a clinically proven positive effect on the health of the throat, tonsils, respiratory tract and oral mucosa and the sinuses.
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule with important biological functions that naturally occurs in the human body. It has the ability to attract and retain a large amount of water, so it is considered to be responsible for the water content of some of the body's tissues and is a natural moisturizing agent. When taken in the form of a lozenge, hyaluronic acid forms a covering film on the mucous membrane of the throat and oral cavity, and has a beneficial effect on the feeling of comfort.
Vitamin C provides strong antioxidant protection in the oral cavity and throat. Supports and strengthens the normal function of the immune system. Contributes to the reduction of the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.
