Levocetirizine
Non-prescription medicinal product
Purpose
Xalergan is an antiallergic medicinal product that contains levocetirizine dihydrochloride as the active substance.
It is used to treat in adults and children over 6 years of age the symptoms of:
- allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including persistent (long-term) allergic rhinitis;
- hives (urticaria).
Active ingredients
1 film-coated tablet contains 5 mg levocetirizine dihydrochloride.
Excipients with known effect: 69.3 mg lactose monohydrate in 1 tablet.
Dosage and method of administration
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and children over 6 years of age – 1 tablet daily
Children under 6 years of age – tablets do not allow dose adjustment, therefore in this age group it is recommended to use an oral solution (drops) in a dose based on body weight.
Special instructions for certain patient groups:
People with impaired kidney function should take a lower dose, depending on the severity of the kidney disease. In children with kidney disease, the dose should be adjusted according to body weight.
Patients with severe kidney impairment should not take this medicine.
Individuals who only have liver function disorders can take the usual prescribed dose.
In case of simultaneous liver and kidney dysfunction, a lower dose is required, taking into account the severity of the kidney disease. The doctor will determine the dose, and in children it will also be taken into account according to body weight.
In elderly patients, no dose adjustment is required if renal function is preserved.
