Iron deficiency is caused by insufficient dietary iron intake and its inadequate absorption or by iron loss due to bleeding (e.g. menstrual bleeding, abnormal bleeding or ulcers) and has serious health consequences. Fatigue, headache, paleness, rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath are possible signs of iron deficiency.
