1. What is Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy and what is it used for?
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy contains dry extract of Ivy leaves.
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy is a herbal medicinal product that is used to relieve productive cough in adults, adolescents and children over 2 years of age.
You should consult a doctor if you do not feel any improvement or your symptoms worsen after taking the medicine for 7 days.
2. What should you know before using Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy?
Do not take Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy
If you are allergic to ivy leaves, plants of the Araliaceae family or any of the other ingredients of this product (listed in section 6).
Children under 2 years of age, due to risk of worsening of respiratory symptoms by secretolytics.
Warnings and precautions
If children between 2 and 4 years of age have a prolonged or frequently recurring cough, a medical diagnosis is required before starting treatment.
If breathing difficulties, fever or purulent sputum occur, you should contact a doctor or pharmacist.
If symptoms do not improve after 7 days of using the medicine, you should consult a doctor.
It is not recommended to take this medicinal product with other medicines that suppress cough (opiate antitussives such as codeine or dextromethorphan) without medical advice.
If you have stomach problems (gastritis, stomach ulcer) this medicine should be used with caution.
If you suffer from kidney failure or liver damage, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy. Data on the recommended dosage in such patients have not been established.
Other medicines and Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
The influence of Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy on the action of other drugs has not been reported so far. No interaction studies have been conducted.
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy with food, drinks and alcohol
You can take Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy regardless of the meal.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to insufficient data on use in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Driving and operating machinery
No studies have been conducted on the effect on the ability to drive and use machines. So far, there are no reports that Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy has an effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy contains liquid maltitol
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
10 ml contains 4 g of liquid maltitol, corresponding to 0.3 bread units. This should be taken into account if you suffer from diabetes mellitus. The caloric value is 2.3 kcal/g maltitol.
Liquid maltitol may have a mild laxative effect.
3. How to use Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended doses are:
For adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 15 ml 3 times daily.
For children from 6 to 11 years: 15 ml 2 times daily.
For children from 2 to 5 years: 10 ml 2 times a day.
Children under 2 years of age: use is contraindicated.
Please use the enclosed measuring cup for correct dosing.
Patients with renal insufficiency or hepatic impairment: due to lack of data, a recommended dose cannot be given (see also “Warnings and precautions”).
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy is taken undiluted and regardless of meals.
During the day, you should drink plenty of water or other warm, non-caffeinated beverages while taking Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy.
If symptoms persist for more than a week while using the product, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If the effect of Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy seems too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you take more Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy than you should
Do not take higher doses than recommended. Taking such doses (more than three times a day) may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and agitation. Please consult your doctor who will decide whether treatment is necessary.
One case has been reported of a 4-year-old child who developed aggression and diarrhea after accidentally ingesting an ivy extract equivalent to 1.8 g of the plant substance (equivalent to 195 ml of Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy).
If you forget to take Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible adverse reactions
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Gastrointestinal reactions (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) have been reported. Frequency unknown
Allergic reactions including hives (urticaria), skin rash, difficulty breathing (dyspnoea) and anaphylactic reaction have been reported. Frequency unknown
If an allergic reaction occurs, the intake should be stopped and you should consult your doctor immediately.

5. How to store Mucoplant expectorant with ivy?
Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store below 25°C.
After initial opening of the bottle, the product can be used for 6 weeks.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Any unused medicinal product or waste materials derived from such medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements. These measures will help to protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What Mucoplant expectorant with ivy contains
The active substance is dry extract of Ivy leaves. Each ml contains 1.54 mg dry extract of Ivy leaves (Hedera helix L.) (DER 4-8:1).
Extracting agent: ethanol 30% (m/m).
The other ingredients (excipients) are: potassium sorbate; hydroxyethyl cellulose; blackcurrant flavor; maltitol, liquid (E965); citric acid anhydrous; purified water.
What does Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy look like and what the package contains?
Mucoplant Expectorant with Ivy is a brownish-yellow, slightly opalescent syrup with a specific odor (blackcurrant).
Available in original packaging of 100, 200, 250 ml in a brown glass bottle, with a measuring cup. Not all packaging may be available for sale.
