Calcium-Sandoz Forte 500 mg

Each effervescent tablet contains:

Active ingredient 2.94 g calcium lactate – gluconate and 0.30 g calcium carbonate, which are equivalent to 500 mg (or 12.5 mmol) ionized calcium.

Excipients: 1.0 sodium bicarbonate (274 mg sodium), 1.65 g citric acid, 0.868 g sucrose, 0.022 g saccharin sodium, polyethylene glycol 4000, orange flavor.

Dosage form

Effervescent tablets for oral administration.

Indications

• Osteoporosis (thin, porous bone), often in combination with other medications;
• Prevention of pre- and postmenopausal (shortly before and after menstruation stops) bone demineralization;
• Rickets and osteomalacia (softening of the bones) in addition to specific therapy;
• Latent tetany (spasms and tremors of the muscles, especially in the hands, feet and face);
• Increased calcium needs in pregnant and lactating women and in children over 6 years of age;
• Supportive treatment for allergic conditions;

Dosage and method of administration

The effervescent tablets should be dissolved in a glass of water.

Adults:

The usual dosage is 500 to 1000 mg of elemental calcium daily. This provides at least 70% of the required dietary calcium intake. In severe cases, up to 2000 mg may be administered during the first few weeks of treatment.

Children :

From 6 to 10 years: 500 mg of elemental calcium daily.

Over 10 years: 1000 mg of elemental calcium daily.
