Birch sugar, also called xylitol, is an intermediate product in the breakdown of carbohydrates, primarily in the liver. Its sweetening power is comparable to that of sugar, but without its harmful effect on teeth.
The caries-reducing properties of birch sugar were discovered in the early 1970s. Two clinical studies were conducted at the University of Turku (Finland) between 1972 and 1975, which showed a significant reduction in caries. Xylitol was found to stimulate the production of specific complexes of saliva, calcium and proteins that promote tooth remineralization.

Directions for use: Can be used twice daily. After brushing teeth, gargle with 1 tablespoon or 1 measuring cap (undiluted solution) for about 30 seconds and spit out. Do not swallow. Do not rinse.
