DOPPELHERZ active Gel against stomach acids and reflux x 20

Doppelhertz® Gel against heartburn and in reflux is used to affect the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, such as heartburn, including during pregnancy, as well as reflux otitis, cough and throat infections.

Mechanism of action:

Doppelhertz® Gel against acid reflux is a combination of sodium alginate, sodium and calcium carbonate. The mechanism of action of the product is physical. When in contact with the acidic environment in the stomach, sodium alginate (a natural polymer derived from brown algae) forms a gel. At the same time, the carbonates release carbon dioxide, which allows the gel to form a protective layer on the surface, preventing the reflux of gastric juice into the esophagus.

In addition, sodium bicarbonate helps reduce stomach acidity.

In this way, Doppelhertz Gel against heartburn and reflux relieves pain and burning quickly and effectively. Thanks to the practical dosed sachets, the suspension can be taken anywhere and at any time, including on the road.

Heartburn and reflux - what are they?

The term "reflux" describes the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus. Reflux disease (reflux esophagitis) is a recurring irritation in the esophagus caused by acid coming up from the stomach. In fact, reflux is among the most common stomach symptoms.

Normally, there is a sphincter in the lower part of the esophagus that prevents corrosive acid from going up into the esophagus. Gastric juice consists of water, mucin (mucus), digestive enzymes, and hydrochloric acid, which has a pH between 1 and 1.5. The acid has a protective function, destroying microorganisms that have entered the mouth, and on the other hand, it activates digestive enzymes. The lining of the stomach is protected from aggressive chemical factors by a mucus layer that covers it.

Reflux occurs when the sphincter does not close properly, and the reasons for this can be varied. The lining of the esophagus is not adapted to withstand such a strong acid, which is why severe irritation occurs, called heartburn.

What foods cause heartburn?

The reasons can be very diverse, but most often they are related to diet and lifestyle. As a general rule, we should avoid too large meals, as well as eating late at night.

The following foods and drinks can provoke stomach complaints related to acidity:

- Agents that increase acid production: nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, black tea, confectionery, strong spices

- Agents that contain acid: citrus fruits, fruit juices, carbonated drinks, wine

- Fatty foods: fried, dried or fatty meats, baked goods, such as cream cakes, croissants, thick sauces, mayonnaise

- Difficult to digest: legumes, onions, cabbage, also fresh bread and pasta, as they spend a long time in the stomach and keep it full

Other causes of heartburn:

- Pregnancy

A rather pleasant cause of this symptom can be pregnancy. In practice, similar complaints occur in a large percentage of pregnant women. The changed hormonal status causes the muscles to relax. This also relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter and allows stomach contents to return to the esophagus. Symptoms intensify in the last trimester of pregnancy, as the growing uterus with the fetus in it further increases the pressure in the abdominal cavity and it becomes much higher than that in the chest (where the esophagus is located).

- Medicines

Sometimes medication can be a cause of reflux. Some increase gastric secretion, others have an effect on muscle tone, and others reduce the protective layer on the gastric mucosa. If you are taking medication and have similar symptoms, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

- Overweight

Extra pounds could also cause such burning, again the problem is the increased pressure in the abdominal cavity, which makes it easier for stomach contents to enter the esophagus. In rarer cases, a similar effect can also occur when wearing too tight clothing or tightening a belt.
