NATURAL FACTORS SELENIUM 50mcg x 90 tabl
Selenium – a natural product for the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Recommended for daily prophylaxis in environments containing heavy metals. The hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) from which this selenium is extracted is derived from the protein fraction of rice and is a mixture of oligopeptides complexed with selenium. Se-HVP is the daily prophylactic agent in environments containing heavy metals due to the complexing (chelating) properties of organically bound selenium in the intestine and in the plasma. Due to its lower dose, it can be taken for a long time as an antioxidant with general action, especially in the aggressive urban environment.
- It is characterized by powerful antioxidant activity that reduces the harmful effects of free radicals.
- It helps to reduce the excessive formation of free radicals.
- It has a protective role in cases of exposure to heavy metals, including mercury, aluminum, cadmium, arsenic, etc.
- It counteracts premature aging processes and helps maintain tissue elasticity. It has a beneficial effect on the skin.
- It contributes to maintaining the body's natural defenses and promotes its ability to fight infections.
- It has a beneficial effect on fertility in both sexes.
- Helps inhibit fat oxidation.
- It plays an important role in the production of prostaglandins, the substances that affect blood pressure and that work closely with vitamin E, strengthening the health of the cardiovascular system.
- Helps prevent oxidation of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and hardening of the arteries.
Not suitable for thyroid problems.
Selenium is a mineral found in soil and in known amounts in water. Food sources of selenium are Brazil nuts, eggs, liver, tuna, cod, sunflower seeds, etc. Whole grains contain a lot of selenium, especially if they are carefully processed so that the selenium is not destroyed.
Selenium is a key component of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which together with other antioxidants plays an important role in protecting the body from free radicals.
Selenium has a synergistic effect with other antioxidants such as vitamin E, which help the body fight oxidative stress and protect against certain cancers, especially prostate, colon, liver, lung, etc. Research shows that in higher doses, selenium contributes to the protection against DNA mutation and damage, and slows the progression and growth of tumors in the presence of oncological diseases.
It has been established that a deficiency of selenium increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and also that an adequate intake of this important mineral significantly reduces the risk of developing coronary heart disease.
Selenium acts as a catalyst for the production of active thyroid hormones, which is why it is considered that its deficiency leads to disorders in the functions of the thyroid gland. Selenium acts as a powerful protector of the thyroid gland, regulating the production of reactive oxygen radicals in it. For these reasons, selenium is considered to have a beneficial effect in Hashimoto's disease, a basal disease
