I.    WHAT IS GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENT ON THE GASTROINTESTINAL MICROFLORA?

WHAT IS THE MICROBIOME?

The collection of microorganisms that normally inhabit the human body is known as microflora, microbiota or microbiome. The human microbiome has been found to consist of approximately 100 trillion bacterial cells, a number 10 times greater than the number of cells in the human body.

Microorganisms colonize or inhabit any surface of the human body that has access to the external environment, incl. skin, respiratory, urogenital and gastrointestinal tract.

The most colonized part of the gastrointestinal tract is the colon, which is inhabited by 10 12 (1 trillion) microorganisms per gram of faecal content, represented in hundreds of species.

Generally speaking, microorganisms can be distinguished as beneficial and harmful to humans.

WHAT FUNCTIONS DOES THE MICROBIOME PERFORM IN THE HUMAN BODY?

Beneficial bacteria perform important metabolic, protective and immunological functions for human health, which are expressed in:

  • Improving the digestion and absorption of nutrients that our body cannot absorb and due to the slow speed of the intestinal passage accumulates in the ascending part of the large intestine
  • the growth of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria
    • of the immune system

Normal microflora is a stable ecosystem. In the composition of the microflora between individuals, there are differences regarding kinds and microbial number, but for the specific one individual the particular individual the microflora remains

relatively constant value throughout life. Certain factors can contribute to the destruction of the balance in this ecosystem, the leading importance of which is the intake of antibiotics.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENT?

The role of antibiotics in the treatment of bacterial infections is irreplaceable, but while they deal with disease-causing bacteria, they have harmful consequences on the microflora, which can clinically appear both in the short and long term.

Complete recovery of the microbiome after antibiotic therapy takes a long time, from several months to several years. In some cases, individual strains (subtypes of a given microorganism) are completely destroyed and the microbiome fails to recover to baseline levels. This unlocks disturbances in the regulation of many processes in the body and sets the stage for the appearance of diseases both related to the gastrointestinal tract and outside it.

One of the most common complications immediately following antibiotic therapy is antibiotic-associated diarrhea, which can affect over 30% of patients. Irritable bowel syndrome is another complication that can occur both immediately after the antibiotic course and months or even years after it.

More and more scientific evidence supports the relationship between disturbed gastrointestinal microflora and disease conditions outside the gastrointestinal tract, which can find clinical expression years after antibiotic intake. In diseases such as asthma, autism and as in various allergic reactions, a changed ratio between "good" and "bad" bacteria is observed. The broken ratio between "good" and

"bad" bacteria also leads to the maintenance of a constant inflammatory reaction, which is one of the leading factors in the occurrence and development of metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus.

Some diseases of the cardiovascular and bone systems can be explained by reduced synthesis of vitamin K, produced only by microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract.

ROLE OF PROBIOTICS IN ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY

To neutralize the negative effect of antibiotic treatment on the microbiome, probiotics are increasingly used.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that, applied in sufficient concentration, have beneficial effects on the human body.

For the rapid restoration of the microbiome, one of the most important conditions is the dose of probiotics. According to ESPGHAN (European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition) the effect of probiotic

tics is defined as dose-dependent, i.e. the higher the dose,

the better the effect.

Another important condition is the selection of strains in the probiotic formula. The rich species diversity of the strains, their resistance to different antibiotics and the speed with which they divide are key factors for the faster recovery of the microbiome to its initial levels.

The ability of the strains to produce metabolites to feed the surviving microflora and bacteriocins that suppress the growth of "bad" bacteria is another factor of extreme importance for the recovery process after antibiotic treatment.

II.   WHAT IS SINQUANON ® KIDS?

SINQUANON ® KIDS is a probiotic specially designed to maintain the normal intestinal microflora during and after antibiotic treatment in children from 0 to 5 years.

It is a blend of 7 specially selected probiotic strains in a megadose of 15 billion CFU*.

III.   HOW DOES SINQUANON ® KIDS WORK AND WHO IS IT FOR?

SINQUANON ® KIDS is a special selection of 7 probiotic strains - lactobacilli, bifidobacteria and saccharomyces, with a high natural resistance to antibiotics, in a mega dose of 15 billion live cells, which supports the normal intestinal microflora during and after antibiotic therapy.

Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria are lactic acid bacteria, which are the most numerous normal inhabitants of our gastrointestinal tract. They produce substances and metabolites important for the body and for the existence of the intestinal microflora.

With antibiotic treatment, the number of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria greatly decreases.

SINQUANON ® KIDS contains a high dose (10 billion) of live lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, which leads to the rapid achievement of high concentrations of beneficial microorganisms in the intestines.

SINQUANON ® KIDS also contains Saccharomyces boulardii - a probiotic yeast that is not affected by antibiotics. It produces enzymes that break down toxins in the intestines and contributes to the maintenance of normal intestinal microflora.

The presence of diverse strains in SINQUANON ® KIDS favors the mutual reinforcement of their beneficial effects.

The strains in SINQUANON ® KIDS are fast-dividing, doubling their mass approximately every 20 minutes. Thanks to this, they manage to maintain the intestinal microflora closer to its physiological levels during antibiotic treatment.

The strains in SINQUANON ® KIDS are specially selected with increased natural resistance against the most commonly used antibiotics, which guarantees their survival and effectiveness.

SINQUANON ® KIDS also contains a prebiotic blend , specially created for the needs of the 7 probiotic strains included in the composition. It includes two types of oligosaccharides that cannot be broken down by the human body, which serve as food for both the probiotic strains and the beneficial bacteria that live normally in the gastrointestinal tract. Prebiotics help the strains in SINQUANON ® KIDS to start dividing quickly.

II.    WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE SINQUANON ® KIDS?

Do not take SINQUANON ® KIDS if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the product's ingredients.

III. WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF SINQUANON ® KIDS?

So far, there are no known product side effects and contraindications

for its acceptance. Its tolerability is very good, allowing safe use for a long period of time.

II.    HOW SHOULD SINQUANON ® KIDS BE TAKEN?

In children from 0 to 5 years, 1 sachet is taken daily from the first day of antibiotic therapy.

After completing the antibiotic therapy, it is essential to continue taking SINQUANON ® KIDS for at least another 2 weeks at the same dose to achieve a more permanent and safe effect.

Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a little water or soft drink, stir and drink. It can also be mixed with food or breast milk.

The recommended interval between taking an antibiotic and SINQUANON ® KIDS is at least 2 hours.

Do not take SINQUANON ® KIDS with hot or alcoholic drinks, so as not to destroy the live bacteria in the sachet.

III.    STORAGE

Store SINQUANON ® KIDS in its original packaging at a temperature of up to 25°C, in a dry place, out of direct sunlight and out of the reach of children.

Do not use the preparation after its expiration date or if the integrity of the packaging is broken.
