Matcha is a powder of finely ground young leaves of specially grown green tea. It has a mild and slightly sweet taste and a rich green color. Used in the Japanese tea ceremony for centuries, today matcha is consumed worldwide as a refreshing drink and as an ingredient in various dishes and desserts.
Matcha plants are grown in the shade for three to four weeks before being harvested, after which the veins and petioles of the leaves are removed during processing. When grown in the shade, the Camellia sinensis plant produces more caffeine and tannin.
Essentially, matcha is a highly concentrated form of green tea, rich in beneficial vitamins and minerals. Green tea and especially matcha contain a large number of flavonoids with scientifically proven antioxidant effects. Matcha belongs to the group of so-called "superfoods". The recommended daily dose of matcha is one gram, as the content of useful substances in it is equivalent to 10 cups of regular green tea. The powdered form of matcha is consumed differently from tea leaves or bags, usually dissolved in water or milk, and can also be used as an ingredient in various smoothies, smoothies or cakes.
Method of use:
To prepare tea, add 60-70 ml. hot, but not boiling water (about 70°C) to 1/4 tsp. (1 g) matcha powder and mix well. For a creamier consistency, you can use a traditional bamboo tea brush or a handheld electric frother. Matcha powder can be mixed with other teas, shakes and drinks. It is suitable for preparing various desserts and sauces.
