Lycopene or lycopersicum is a natural pigment belonging to carotenoids. Its red molecules are responsible for the color of a number of fruits such as tomatoes, goji berries, olives and rose hips. Since it is contained in the cell membrane, lycopene helps to protect against disorders due to oxidative processes. As an antioxidant, lycopene can successfully block the harmful effects of free radicals. It may contribute to the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system and prostate health.
