SINQUANON KIDS I. WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT GASTROINTESTINAL
THE MICROFLORA?
WHAT IS THE MICROBIOME?
The set of microorganisms that normally
inhabit the human body, is known as microflora,
microbiota or microbiome. It was found that the human
microbiome consists of approximately 100 trillion
bacterial cells, a number 10 times greater than the number of
cells in the human body.
Microorganisms colonize or inhabit every
part of the human body that has access to external
environment, incl. skin, respiratory, urogenital and
gastrointestinal tract.
The most colonized part of the gastrointestinal tract
is the large intestine, which is inhabited by 1012 (1 trillion)
microorganisms per gram of faecal content presented
in hundreds of species.
Generally speaking, microorganisms can be branched-
chat as useful and harmful to man.
WHAT FUNCTIONS DOES THE MICROBIOME PERFORM IN HUMAN
THE FAT BODY?
Beneficial bacteria perform important metabolic,
protective and immunological functions for human health,
which are expressed in:
• Improving digestion and absorption of nutrients
nital substances that our body cannot
to absorb and due to the slow speed of the intestinal passage
accumulates in the ascending colon
• Synthesis of vitamins
• Stimulation of the immune system
Normal microflora is a stable ecosystem. Consisting of
of the microflora between individual individuals is
differ in terms of species and microbial numbers,
but for the specific individual the microflora remains comparably
a constant value throughout life.
Certain factors can contribute to the destruction of
net of balance in this ecosystem such as stress, food,
climate change, including antibiotics.
The complete restoration of the microbiome after disturbances
in his balance has been going on for a long time, for several me-
seeds up to several years. In some cases, individual strains
(subtypes of a given microorganism) are destroyed
completely and the microbiome fails to recover until
your walking levels.
ROLE OF PROBIOTICS
Probiotics are live microorganisms that applied
in sufficient concentration, have beneficial effects
on the human body.
To support the rapid recovery of the microbiome
one of the most important conditions is the dosage of the probiotic.
According to ESPGHAN (European Society of Pediatric
gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition), the effect of
probiotics is defined as dose-dependent, i.e. how much
the higher the dose, the better the effect.
Another important condition is the selection of strains in the probiotic
tical formula. The rich species diversity of the
moves, the persistence and speed with which they are shared,
are key factors in helping the faster
restoring the microbiome to baseline levels.
The ability of strains to produce metabolites
for the nutrition of the surviving microflora, are another factor
of utmost importance.
