Goji Berry - Origin and Facts
Goji berries are the fruit of the Licium barbarum plant. In Central Asia, the goji berry, also known as the "lucky berry," is so prized that people there celebrate several festivals each year in honor of the plant. It is so revered because the fruit is believed to help increase longevity and well-being.
According to some legends, thousands of years ago, monks in the Himalayas ate goji berries to aid their meditation and gain better health, vitality, longevity, energy, and stamina.
Goji berries are believed to prevent aging, are considered to be a source of beauty and youth, energy, strength and patience. In traditional Chinese medicine, goji berries are used to counteract Qi deficiency. Therefore, modern science is interested in identifying the active ingredients in goji berries.
At high altitudes, goji berries grow freely under natural conditions. The berries are lightly dried in the moderately warm sun, so the goji berries are practically unprocessed.

What else you should know about our goji berry
There are different types of goji berries on the market in Europe, most of which are 350 in size (average 350 berries per 50g). Our goji berries are large and juicy – 180-200 in size (average 200 berries per 50g). Keep this information in mind when making your choice.
Usage: Consume goji berries alone as a healthy snack or in combination with muesli or nuts. Suitable addition to raw pastries and shakes. You can also soak them, puree them and use the resulting pulp as a base for drinks and desserts. The recommended daily intake is 10-30g per day (30g is about ¼ tsp).
Safety Precautions: Avoid taking goji berries if you are sensitive to plants in the potato family (Solanaceae – which includes potatoes, tomatoes and peppers). If you are prone to diarrhea, gas and bloating or are currently experiencing any of these symptoms, it is also not a good idea to take goji berries.

Easy recipes with goji berries
Goji berry marmalade or juice
Energizing juice or “unique” marmalade – it depends on how much water you add.
1/4 cup goji berries (soaked), use the soaking water.
1/2 tsp. orange peel
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1 date or 1 tsp. honey or agave.
Blend in a blender until smooth, like marmalade. Add a cup of coconut water if desired.
Goji berry salad
Two apples, diced, 2 tbsp walnuts, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, 3 tbsp Goji berries. Mix and season to taste.
Goji berry and ginger tea
25g ginger, chopped
25g dried goji berries
25g cane sugar
500ml water
Mix the listed ingredients in a teapot or other container and pour hot water over them. Let them steep for 20 minutes, then pour into a glass and enjoy.
